Our Story
A.J. Lucky founded BLQ Medium with one belief at its core: meaningful change happens when strategy, storytelling, advocacy, and community are brought together with intention.
Originally launched in 2020 as a media and production focused organization, BLQ Medium has been reimagined and relaunched in June of 2026 as a multidisciplinary consulting firm serving nonprofits, advocacy groups, public initiatives, and social impact organizations. What began as a creative podcasting project, evolved into something larger, a firm designed to help organizations not only communicate their mission, but mobilize people around it.
As Founder A.J. Lucky deepened his work across public policy, advocacy, elections, media, and the arts, he recognized a deeper opportunity: to create a theory of change rooted in both strategy and humanity. BLQ Medium was built at the intersection of strategic consulting and media & production.
Through this work, A.J. developed a theoretical framework designed to ethically build relationships with communities while utilizing lived experiences, storytelling, and collective narratives to influence policy, systems design, and community centered programming. The framework centers core principals to ensure communities are engaged as partners in change rather than subjects of outreach or a marketing tool.
A.J.’s approach is shaped by his identity as an intersectional professional: someone who brings both lived experience and professional expertise into every room. This dual lens allows BLQ Medium to offer unique insight into program design, public engagement, advocacy strategy, and culturally responsive communications in ways that are both informed and deeply human.
BLQ Medium also emerged in response to a critical gap within the social impact sector. Too often, organizations struggle to ethically engage communities with vulnerable histories, unintentionally leaving people feeling exploited for their pain, trauma, or lived experiences. BLQ Medium exists to help organizations build trust centered approaches that prioritize dignity, authenticity, and long-term relationship building over performative engagement.
Our work is grounded in the belief that communities should never feel like campaigns, statistics, or content. They should feel seen, heard, respected, and empowered.
Community Development & Leadership
At BLQ Medium, we believe sustainable change starts within communities themselves. Beyond consulting, we are deeply committed to community development and cultivating the next generation of transformational leaders.
Through our Workshop training and electoral campaign management and advising, we work to equip emerging changemakers, advocates, organizers, creatives, and public servants with the tools, strategy, and confidence needed to lead impactful initiatives within their communities. This includes supporting individuals who are ready to step into civic leadership and pursue elected office as a pathway toward systemic change.
Our approach to leadership development centers people with lived experience; individuals who understand the realities, challenges, and strengths of the communities they serve. We believe communities deserve leaders who are not only qualified, but connected, compassionate, and accountable to the people they represent.
Our expertise covers education, youth justice reform, economic justice, housing and philanthropy. With a combined 25 years of experience across media, policy, organizing, advocacy, and creative industries, our team brings both technical expertise and cultural awareness to every project we lead.
