BLQ Medium Advocacy Workshops are a three-part, progressive training series designed to build individual and organizational capacity for effective advocacy, storytelling, and systems change. Each workshop builds on the last, moving participants from foundational understanding to advanced strategy and real-world application. All sessions are fully customizable to the needs of advocates, volunteers, or partner organizations.
Advocacy Workshops
Power-to-Pause Storytelling & Relational Power Building
This workshop focuses on the foundational skills of organizing relationships. Participants learn how to build trust-based connections through intentional one-to-one conversations, reflective listening, and community mapping. Through interactive exercises, participants strengthen personal and collective power while developing meaningful community relationships for advocacy and systems change.
Speaking to Legislators & Power Mapping Systems
Participants learn how to effectively communicate with elected officials and decision-makers in both formal and informal settings. The workshop covers issue framing, preparing for meetings, and how to deliver clear and compelling advocacy messages. Participants gain confidence in engaging with policy leaders and decision-makers.
Narrative Crafting & Ethical Storytelling
This session supports organizers in transforming personal and community narratives into advocacy tools rooted in ethical practice. Participants learn how to share lived experiences responsibly while centering dignity, agency, and informed consent. The workshop explores how stories can inspire policy change and community action.
Script Design for Organizing Conversations
Organizers learn how to design effective conversation scripts for outreach, community meetings, and advocacy campaigns. Participants practice creating messages that are authentic, goal-oriented, and responsive to community needs. The session strengthens facilitation and communication skills for meaningful engagement.
Speaking to Legislators & Power Mapping Systems
This workshop introduces the building blocks of effective campaigns, including stakeholder mapping, coalition building, identifying decision-makers, and understanding systems of influence. Participants develop practical tools for organizing and advocacy planning while exploring strategies that create sustainable community impact.
